The Keeper of The Lost Cities

Hey bloggers,

This week for our 'Non swimmers task' I wrote a book review on a really good book called The keeper of the lost cities. It is about a 12 year old girl called Sophie Foster she has telepathy ability, she can read minds. I think that this book is a 4/5 stars. This book is like another version of Harry Potter, the author Shannon Messenger.

Have a good day,

Hey, Bloggers in class we have been researching things about NZ. This blog post is about the difference and changes in the Hāngī. I found it a bit difficult explaining the modern kind of Hāngī. I think it is quite interesting that people came up with something like this in the olden days

Crazy Ki-o-Rahi

Hey, Bloggers, we have been learning about the game ki-o-Rahi we have read the legend and learnt a bit of the basic rules. I made a poster about the game and I have rewritten the legend in my own words.  It is a bit confusing that the legend doesn't have anything to do with the game. The version on this poster is shortened, if you want to read the whole story click here

Learning Traditional Maori Culture

Hey, Bloggers today we have been learning about, Tā moko (Maori tattooing), Haka (Tribal Dancing) and Kākahu or Korowai (Maori cloaks) using these examples we have been looking at the differences between the past and the present (the changes made in the use, design and materials). We have done this because we are preparing for the future when we will have to do this ourselves.

My Holidays & The Cat in the Hat!

Hey Bloggers, How were your holidays?

Yesterday for literacy we made a table of we think the characters on the story of the cat in the hat behave. There are 5 headings speech, thoughts, effects on others, Actons and looks. What are you doing for literacy? For example, this was a follow up from children's books. In the holidays I went to hammer springs for a day trip, The waterslides were closed so I couldn't go on them.

What did you do in the holidays?
Have a great day

Informational experiments

For literacy, this week are doing science experiments my science experiment was about fossilization here is our hypothesis. I think Softer soils will hold the imprint better than soils/dirt that is harder. This was not made around the research we did because the research we did only told us about fossils, not about the soils. I think that the sandy soils with fossilizing better due to the fact that fossils are mostly found in sedimentary rock (sand, silt or clay). There are some minor differences we will take into thought like for example that sand cracks very easily when it is dry so we won’t we able move the plate. Although I think our experiment will work very well and we will get good results.  Here is a picture

Have a good week

Perfect (but not so perfect) PSA's

Today we were doing coding and we were told to put out an issue that we thought needed more attention,   in our community I have noticed that we have had a lot of rubbish lately so I made a PSA about it. PSA stands for public service announcement.

My message is not to litter, I choose this because I thought is a message that everybody knows about but doesn't take action. The audience mainly for everyone who can read, I made it applauding by making it interactive.

Beautiful Samoan

Today we were learning Samoan but this time we did an animation, the animation was about simple Samoan greetings ( Having a simple conversation between two people). Here are the meanings if you can't spot them in the animation. If you didn't know Samoa is a Polynesian island located in the pacific ocean about 4 hours away from New Zealand and has a population of about 200,000.

Tālofa - Hello

How long can it fly?

For Inquiry this week/ last week we were making parachutes and the one that took the longest to land.on the ground won. To build this rocket you had the materials of.
Paper, tape, fabric, bubble wrap, glue and string. This is the digram of our initial design and our final one too only made with some slight changes

For our initial design, we got a piece of bubble wrap and a yellow cloth stuck them together using tape,
but then we realised the design was too heavy and would fall to the ground in a matter of seconds but we still tested to see how it would float. For this design, we were going to add 2 additional pieces of paper to put on top so they could steer the parachute in a pretty even direction but we ran out of time and never got to build it. For our first test on this parachute, we got 1.25 seconds.

For our final design, we used everything in the photo above and since the nuts were too heavy we deiced only to use a light piece of blue fabric. The size of the parachute was made larger due to the fact we had a much larger piece of fabric. We did not change the parachute in any way or made any additional changes. Our final performance was great our score wasn't as great as many others but we did come out with 1.88 seconds. I would not change anything only make it larger if we did this again.

Have a great day

Literacy

This week of literacy we have been learning about different scientists My all-time favourite scientist/ astronomer  Galileo Galili so we had to fill out a template about him here is my version of it. To the right of my information is my poster about him to go with the piece of writing.

Math
For math, we have been learning about equations these questions here were Manley just recap questions so we could remember from the holidays. This and last team we had been leaning about equations/ Algebra, a queation could be like 2x – 4 = 2 .

Science badges
I have finished my geology science badge after the whole holidays of working on that! Down below is the front page of my website!

Have a great week and weekend stay healthy and stay safe

What are the Southern Lights

This week it has been a great last week, I Was only ate school for 2 days! Anyway

Today we were learning about the Southern Lights here is my knowledge. First of all the Southern Lights or the Aurora Australis, Aurora comes from the Roman word Goddess of Dawn. The Aurora lights are usually the colours greenish but sometimes red or blue. The Aurora lights are formed by the sun bursting out flames of fire from the sun, they spray towards the Earth. But the magnetic field stops it, usually, there are flames that get through when they enter the Earths atmosphere they collide with the oxygen bubbles and create the light.

Here is my Aurora Australis

I hope you like it, have a lovely day!

Wonder the wonderful book

Hey bloggers,
for literacy today we were doing Genre we had to pick a book and write the different genre in it as you can see I chose the book wonder.  If you don't know, Wonder is a heartwarming story about a boy who is born with some skin problems and his face looks a bit different. He starts school and everybody is talking about him and makes fun of him. But he finds a friend and warms up to everyone.
 This is my work,
I hope you like it, have a great day!

Do you Know what ASCII is?

Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?

Have a great day

Do you want to know who the real Superheros are?

Kia Ora Bloggers,
I hope you are having a great day!!

For inquiry, we were looking  at images that had a global issue behind them I chose this one, we had to write what we thought is meant here is mine:
Everybody knows that there is a global pandemic going on in the world at the moment and this art totally represents our unspoken heroes at the moment. This photo to me looks like a nurse/ doctor wearing a superhero mask.  I can tell because of the scrub and the way she has tided her hair up. I think that this image has a clear reminder to all people that some people are work even harder than them but some get paid less.  What do you think this picture is trying to tell you?

Have a great day

Billy is sooo Ironic

Hey bloggers,
We have been learning as a hub about irony there are 3 types of Irony, Situational Irony, dramatic Irony and Verbal Irony. Situational Irony is when something happens but it is unexpected, you would expect to see a human walking a dog but instead, you saw the dog walking a human that would be Situational Irony.

Dramatic Irony: for example, you go to the cinema and you watch a movie where the audience knows that the character is going to die but the character and their friends don't know that. Lastly Verbal Irony is when the character says the opposite of what is actually happening, for example, let's say there is a thunderstorm outside and a person says in a sarcastic tone
"What a lovely day!"
This is mine, what type of irony do you think me and my friend used?

Go and check out Isabella blog
Have a lovely day!

Marvellous Mathematics

Literacy

For math this week we did algebra. For algebra, we did sequences we were to investigate the rule. Work out the differences between each term and the next, explore the patterns and list the nest few terms. Some of them were challenging but most of them were easy. I think I did well with this task next time I think I could challenge myself to do the task a bit quicker.

Literacy
For literacy this week we were doing themes we had to get three done by the end of the week but I did four. The one I will share with you today is Improbability, impossibly and Absurdity this one was one of the most fun out of all of the themes I did. Here is a screenshot

 Maori
Over the past few weeks, we were doing Koru art we have done so many things I can't wait to show you. First, we did Koru pastel art, 2nd we did bone carving designs and made them out of playdough and lastly, we made bone carvings out of air-dry clay.  Here is a video

Lastly have a great day,

The Legend of... The Island of the Dolls

Hey bloggers,
How are you? I hope you had a good week because I did 😀.
Moving on in this blog post I will share everything I did over the week!

Literacy
For literacy this week we were focusing a lot on the book we are reading if you don't know we are reading  The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy if you think you would be interested in this book check out the link.
As I was saying we were focusing on the book a lot, one of the activities (the one I am going to share) is all about finding a legendary place and write about it mine was the Island of the Dolls in Mexico. Here is a photo

Maths

For math this week we were focusing on angles and measurement the task I am showing you is about measuring and naming angles. For example in angle FBI is 150 degrees so it is an obtuse angle. But the angle CVS is a reflex angle because the degrees is over 180

This week has been a very good week and I have had a lot of fun,
Have you ever read the book Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy? If you have don't spoil anything for me
Have a lovely week,

Can you draw in 90 seconds??

Kia ora bloggers,

I hope you had a great week I sure did, today  I will be sharing my math, literacy and a Friday challenge task. This week for literacy we were doing different activities to do with the book we are The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy one of these examples is when we had to write 2-3 paragraphs of what we would have done differently if we were in Arthur's shoes this is mine,

Down here you will also see some math this week for maths we were learning how to calculate the volume of different shapes, for the task I am going to show you is about the volume of prims. For this task, we were given the volume of 240cm3 and were told to find out the measurements to a prim (I calculated all of them). The next image is 90-second art I did this for my Friday challenge art,

This week I am happy that I finally learnt the whole song to my piece in piano exam book,
Do you learn an instrument??
Have a great weekend

Have you ever heard of a Coriraggdaysis??

Kia Ora fellow bloggers,
I hope you are having a lovely day.
Over the week I have learnt about what Irony is and the different types and about (They are verbal, situational and dramatic irony the all-state a different purpose such as Verbal irony is when someone says something but it is not what they mean the most common types of this is sarcasm, situational irony is when something happens that is not expected, the last is dramatic when the audience knows something that the characters don't) something else we were learning about was bureaucracy
This week I learnt a new part to my piano exam piece no I can almost play half of the song! Today I will be sharing one of my Fri-yay tasks for this task we had to draw an animal that didn't exist mine is called a Coriratggdaysis this is what it looks like,
it is a Cat, panda unicorn, tiger and giraffe mixed!
This week I did well at completing my tasks on time but I think I need to work on giving myself short brakes in between
What would you call this animal???

More Measurement

Today for our task we had to (For all of them we had to estimate then measure)

  1. Make a paper plane out of paper and then estimate how far you think it will fly
  2. From a standing position, with both feet together, how far do you think you can jump forward
  3. From standing still, then jumping upwards and reaching with your arm,  how high do you estimate you can reach?
  4. You know now how far forward you can jump, but can you estimate how high you can jump? (No trampolines allowed!)
This task I felt was easy
